Zeth was a happy young man who adored his family and friends. He loved superheros, especially Spider-Man. Zeth did not allow his health and developmental limitations keep him from living a happy and adventurous life. He ran, danced, and "flew" any opportunity he had. He was known throughout Columbia, MO from going to places with his caretakers Brenda and his best friend, his grandpa, John. Zeth's health continued to decrease until he passed away at the young age of 12 years old. In the short time Zeth was with us, he made an everlasting impact on all those around him and his positive influence continues to live through those individuals.
Zeth's fight though his limitations inspires us to keep that fighting spirit alive and that's what influences this scholarship foundation. Zeth was born with a developmental disability requiring him to have intermittent personal assistance staff in his home to help with his independence. A recurring problem was finding reliable quality staff to work with Zeth and his family in his home, often leaving them with long periods without any support. Through experience we found that Zeth and his family were not the only ones with this problem.
Many jobs in the human services field are low paying and, while rewarding, can be very stressful. We also find a lot of people getting their degree's with very limited work experience. We want to fix this problem and help encourage people going into these fields to gain experience while pursuing their degree. So we created this foundation to help out those going to college pursuing a degree in the human services field, with a requirement of being employed in a position related to their major or providing support to others in need.
